The main goal of this work is to evaluate the service differentiation and QoS acliievecl with different scheduliiig disciplines for polling protocols. First, the service differentiation achieved with two mediiun access protocols with inessage-based priorities is analytically evaluated, and after that two scheduling disciplines are proposed and evaluated thru the use of computes siinulations. The proposed scheduling disciplines are also compared to the scheduling discipline suggested by IEEE 802.11E in the HCF mode, which is also evaluated thru the use of computer simulations. The study considered a inultimeclia traffic that includes voice, video and data sources, and shows problems in the scheduling clisciplines suggested by IEEE 802.11E HCF, as well as the superiority of tlie proposed schecluling disciplines. Many considerations a.bout tra.ffic models, buffer management disciplines and performance metrics are also done.
