In this work we make a thorough literature review over the packing problems, as well as the development of numeric experiments with hyperbolic smoothing, for solving the min-max problem of packing.
The experiments are focused on the packing of identical circles inside the unit square, using hyperbolic smoothing in order to transfonn the min-max, non-linear and non-differentiable problem of packing into a problem of the Coo class, for avoiding the local minimum points and make it easier to find the global optimizer.
The results obtained are compared to the best putative results of already published methods, for verification of advantages, perfonnance and precision. It should be noted that very few publications in the Portuguese language have been publicized about this specific subject.
